Staying safe in the heat

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Officials are encouraging the elderly to stay inside with the temperatures heating up. If you plan on going out in the heat, bring a hat or umbrella and stay in the shade as long as possible. Officials say heat stroke is common in older folks.

“Seniors should be cautious in the summer months when the heat is excessive to not spend prolonged periods of time outdoors and when you are to stay in the shade and moderate your clothing so don’t wear things that will make you hotter than you need to be,” said Mineko Holloway.

Always have plenty of water to stay hydrated.
