New Bern triple homicide scheduled to return to court in September

NEW BERN, NC (WNCT) – The man accused of killing three children in New Bern in March is temporarily getting out of jail.

Craven County District Attorney Scott Thomas says 18-year-old Burmese native Eh Lar Doh Htoo’s will go to Central Hospital in Butner for a forensic evaluation.

“That is a psych evaluation to determine competency to proceed to trial and that is pretty standard in cases with fact such as these,” explained Scott Thomas, Craven County district attorney.

Prosecutors say Eh Lar Doh Htoo killed three of his neighbors, all under the age of 12. They say the victim’s mother and their sister escaped the attack at the home in the Burmese refugee community in New Bern.

His next court date is scheduled for September 4.
