NC NAACP wants marker at 1965 New Bern bombing site

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – The town of New Bern is commemorating the 50th anniversary of a bombing outside an NAACP meeting.

The organization will meet Saturday at St. Peter’s AME Zion Church in New Bern at 5 p.m.

In 1965, the Ku Klux Klan placed dynamite in two civil rights leader’s cars during a meeting. Their cars were severely damaged.

The NAACP asks to establish a historic marker by the area to honor the day and the members who fought for justice.
