GREENVILLE, NC (WNCT) — Are you ready for some football? The official football season is still a few weeks away from kickoff but the community is coming together to score for three Pitt County brothers who are battling cancer.
The “Touchdown for Life” event Saturday is all about fun and football. Trabian, Dontayvion and De’Ahntay are brothers and all three boys have cancer. Luckily, they are all in the remission stage of their treatment but times have been tough on the kids and their families.
The event Saturday is targeted to make a play towards distracting the boys, even if it’s just for a day. Flag football games will be held all day and each boy is the coach of his own team. The boy’s father says after all his family has been through, it’s nice to have a different focus.
“It’s not worrying about any doctors, not worrying about being hooked up to an IV,” says Trabian Barnes. “It’s all about football, playing football, having fun. Just having fun.”
“Touchdown for Life” kicks off Saturday, June 13 at 9 a.m at ECU’s North Recreational Complex at 3764 U.S. 264 East. Teams may no longer register but the event is free and open to the public. Some former ECU Football standouts and some NFL players are expected at the event.
