Coast Guard crew, family members help to clean up Shackleford Banks

SHACKLEFORD BANKS, N.C. (WNCT) – Crew members from Coast Guard Cutter Elm participated in a beach clean-up at Shackleford Banks.

15 crew members, two family members, and the National Park Service removed more than 150 pounds of trash over two hours.

The boat, Cutter Elm, is a 225-foot sea-going buoy tender home ported in Fort Macon, North Carolina.

Crew members say it was a nice break from training to do something good for the community.
