Hundreds show up for Havelock mother’s vigil

HAVELOCK, N.C. (WNCT) – Family and friends gathered in Havelock on Wednesday night for a candlelight vigil for a mother recently found to be murdered.

Havelock Police say 22-year-old Summer Swindell’s body was found in an abandoned home in the Lake Tyler subdivision on Friday. Swindell had been missing since April.

Swindell’s ex-husband, Michael Balance II, was arrested and charged with her murder on Saturday.

Hundreds showed up for the vigil to honor Swindell’s life and call for support for her two children and her family.

People wore blue since that was Swindell’s favorite color.

Friends remembered Swindell for her smile, especially when she worked at Walmart.

A gofundme page has been set to help the Swindell family with expenses. Click here for more information.

A benefit for the Summer Swindell family is also scheduled for June 21st. That benefit will be held in the Havelock Walmart from 8a.m. – 2p.m. The benefit will feature local vendors, a yard sale, a silent auction, and lunch. For more information head to the Prayers for Summer Facebook page.
