Move to get students free lunch in Beaufort County

WASHINGTON, N.C. (WNCT) – The Beaufort County School System is looking at getting free lunches for all students at three schools.

The plan is part of the Community Eligibility Provision offered by the federal government in the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010.

Eastern Elementary, Ed Tech and SW Snowden could qualify as having the minimum amount of low income students needed.

The Board of Education heard about this program at Monday’s meeting.

School system spokeswoman Sarah Hodges told WNCT the board is expected on approving pursuing the program at the end of the month.

Other school systems, like Lenoir County Schools, are already taking advantage.

Pitt County also has six schools offering the free lunch program.
