Greenville daycare abuse case set to go to trial Monday

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Stephany and LaShada Ward both face charges stemming from an incident this past fall where a 4-year-old girl was allegedly hit in the face while at the Kidz Place day care on Memorial Drive. The Pitt County Department of Social Services says evidence shows a child was abused at a Greenville daycare facility.

Greenville Police said they had enough evidence to charge LaShada Ward with assault on a child under the age of twelve. Her mother and owner of Kidz Place, Stephany Ward, faces obstruction of justice charges.

Shavonda Pugh, the mother of the 4-year-old tells us the trial is set to begin Monday morning.

One of Kidz Place’s buildings is now closed.

DHHS says that was done voluntarily, but they are still investigating.
