Ayden approves budget and stormwater fee

AYDEN, N.C. (WNCT) – The Town of Ayden approved its 2015-16 budget on Monday night.

Town officials told WNCT that this year’s new budget is a revenue source to address flooding issues in the town.

The budget includes a $3.50 one time stormwater fee and 7.5% increase in the sewer rate.

According to Mayor Stephen Tripp the fee will help the town continue its efforts to address several projects to alleviate flooding.

“It’s not a tax; it’s a stormwater fee that is added to the utility bill. That will generate enough income about $120,000 dollars a year to help us get through the priority list of things that need to be done,” said Tripp

Two of the major projects on the priority list are located on a Planter’s Street and Vernon Street.

Last summer the town allocated more than $100,000 dollars towards drainage issues.

Only council member Phyllis Ross voted against the budget.
