The Tryon Palace welcomed the newest American citizens earlier Wednesday morning.
9 On Your Side was there as the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services hosted the naturalization of 46 citizens at the New Bern historical site.
32 countries were represented at the ceremony at the North Carolina History Center.
One woman originally from Paraguay celebrated her new citizenship and shared what the day meant to her.
“Well today’s a very special day,” said Yivell Hodge. “I really feel excited. I left my country seven years ago. Becoming a [citizen] is a wonderful experience.”
Tryon Palace has held several ceremonies over the years.
