One of Devantae Dortch’s teammates has created a scholarship in he and another former player’s name.

Marquis Bunting and Devantae Dortch died within two months of each other and both played on the DH Conley football team.

Zach White, who is also battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma cancer says he’s doing what he thinks is right.

“I just felt like they needed to be honored in some way,” White said. “They’re just both great guys and we all come together as a team and lift each other up.”

The scholarship has raised $1,000 so far and will be given to a college bound Viking football player.

A 5k will be held Saturday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m. to raise additional funds.  The race starts and finishes at University Church of God in Greenville.
