Hundreds of individuals in Pitt County received free over-the-counter medicine today in Greenville.
The organization NC MedAssist partnered with the Vidant Health Foundation to give away the medications to anyone who has a financial need. The group provided medications for over 400 people.
From allergy relief to vitamins, over $80 worth of medicine was given away to each individual.
Organizers say this is how the group is reaching out and finding ways to provide resources to those who are uninsured.
“Today we will help identify those who are uninsured so we can bring them more resources like our free pharmacy program or resources through Access Health. We are identifying those who need us desperately.” Said Kristin Young of NC MedAssist.
The medications are provided by the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. The group hopes to alleviate the strain on local emergency rooms by providing meds to those who usually would use the emergency room for fever, minor pain relief and treating cold and flu symptoms.
If you missed today’s event the group will be holding an OTC day in Dare County later this year.
