East Carolina focusing on Columbia in Coral Gables Regional

On Friday, East Carolina will make its 27th appearance in the NCAA Baseball Championships. The Pirates, the two-seed, will meet the three-seed Columbia in the opening game.

The Pirates are on quite the hot streak, having won 20 of its last 25 games, including eight in a row. Their most recent win was a 9-1 victory over (18) Houston in the American Conference title game. It marked the first conference tournament title for East Carolina since 2002.

Meanwhile, the Columbia Lions are the 2015 Ivy League Conference tournament champs. The Lions, like the Pirates, earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships with their conference tournament title. It marks the second straight year Columbia has landed in the Coral Gables Regional, losing two one-run games in the 2014 tournament.

Columbia-East Carolina has a 1pm ET start. It will be streamed on ESPN3.
