DH Conley stormed by Apex on Thursday 6-2 to win the Eastern Finals and advance to the 4A Softball State Championship. The Vikings, eying their first title as a 4A school, will meet North Davidson in the State Championship. The location for the three-game series has yet to be determined. Rachel Weidner led the Vikings on the mound on Thursday, allowing just two runs with nine strikeouts.
C.B. Aycock Baseball is also headed to the State Championship. The Golden Falcons will play Marvin Ridge for the 3A Baseball State title. Aycock topped Lee County 4-0 in Game 1, and followed up with a 3-2 win on Thursday.
Northside-Pinetown was eliminated from the 1A Softball state playoffs after a 1-0 loss to North Duplin on Friday. The Panthers were shutout in the Eastern Finals. Courtney Brock was the hero on Friday for the Rebels, hitting the game-winning home-run in the final frame. North Duplin will get the winner of Hiwassee Dam Lincoln Charter in next week’s title series.
DH Conley scored two runs in the bottom of the 7th inning and rallied to beat Apex 2-1 in game one of the 4A Eastern Finals in the NCHSAA softball playoffs
Breanna Hardee drove home the game winner with a shot in the gap to right-centerfield to complete the Viking rally.
Conley leads the best-of-three series 1-0 with game two set for Apex on Thursday night.
At Northside, North Duplin’s Rylee Pate threw a no-hitter as the Rebels upset the previously unbeaten Panthers , 3-0. North Duplin will host game two tomorrow night and can close out the series then.
