Overnight, Kinston police took a suspect into custody after they say shots were fired.

Police say officers on patrol heard the gun go off around 2 a.m. near North Adkin Street and Fields Street. That’s when they tracked down Joe Hendley.

So far, there are no reports of actual damage or anything being hit.

Officers found a handgun and small amount of marijuana on Hendley.

He’s being charged with discharge of a firearm in the city and possession of a firearm by a felon. Hendley is being held on $50,000 bond.
