Memorial Day is the day the nation pauses to remember members of the military who died while serving the United States.
 
President Obama will lay a wreath at The Tomb of the Unknowns and make remarks at The Arlington National Cemetery.

The National Memorial Day Parade takes place in Washington D.C. beginning at 2 p.m. The Havelock High School Marching band will mark in that parade.

Another Memorial Day observance takes place at the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C.

Governor Pat McCrory ordered all American and North Carolina flags to be flown at half-staff from sunrise until noon on Memorial Day.

Several observances are taking place across the east. Some of them are as follows:
 
-Memorial Day service at the Havelock Tourist and Event Center at 9 a.m. Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. Guest speakers will be from Marine Corp Air Station Cherry Point and Camp Lejeune.

-Memorial Day service at Newport Town Hall, beginning at 11 a.m. Sponsored by American Legion

-Memorial Day service at the Bay View Cemetery Veterans Memorial in Morehead City at 11 a.m.

-Memorial Day service at the Bay View Cemetery Veterans Memorial in Morehead City at 11 a.m.

-Memorial Day observance at the Battleship USS North Carolina in Wilmington at 5:45 p.m.
