At Camp Lejeune, two military veterans and their service dogs ended their over 6,000 mile journey Monday afternoon.

These veterans walked to raise awareness and money for military families.

New Bern Marine Veteran Dan Spangler traveled to Camp Pendleton, CA and back with his dog Spanky.

“I don’t know where I would be without the companionship that my dog Spanky gave me when I came home from Iraq,” says Dan Spangler, who served as a sergeant in the Marine Corps. “Spanky saved me.”

Army Ranger Veteran Joe Trainor walked with his dog CT.

“As soon as I heard what Dan is doing, I knew I wanted to join in,” said Trainor. He is going blind due to traumatic brain injuries he sustained while on duty in Afghanistan.

The group started the trip in April. This journey was part of initial fundraising efforts for the Dreamers Foundation.
