The Greenville Police Department says a dog attacked three children outside of their home Sunday night. Kristen Hunter with GPD says the large mixed-breed dog broke loose from a fence and attacked the children around 8:30 p.m. in the Park West Apartment Complex.

The father of the children attempted to stop the dog but was also attacked. When officers arrived on scene, the dog attempted to attack an officer which resulted in the dog being shot.

All four victims were treated on the scene and have minor injuries. The dog passed away. Greenville Police are still working to identify and locate the owner of the dog.

Greenville Animal Protective Services will continue the investigation.
