A group of Pitt County students determined to make a difference are raising money to help bring clean water to impoverished countries.

The UNICEF club at South Central High School has a goal of $12,000. They’ve raised money since last year to help fund a deep water well and pump benefiting a mountain side community in Nicaragua.

“It’ll definitely be a life changing experience because all of us will get to experience a new culture.” Serena Mooney, UNICEF club president said.

“To see children that are able to remove those blinders and look at the suffering of others and assist and help them is absolutely incredible.” Katie Riley, UNICEF club sponsor said.

This summer the group will travel to the country to help install the water system.

Right now they are over the half-way point and hope to raise the rest from a planned magic show.

Bill Frost will perform Saturday May 30th at the South Central High School auditorium. It starts at 6 P.M. and tickets are $10.
