Girl scouts are known for sending cookies to troops and on Thursday a few scouts from Pitt County were on hand for the distribution.

Operation Cookie Drop took place in Ayden at NC Packs 4 Patriots, the local group that has supported troops with gifts for years.

The girl scouts were on time, but the cookies arrived late.

The girls spent time writing notes for the troops.

When the cookies finally arrived behind a tow truck, some troops on hand unloaded almost 14,000 boxes, part of 80,000 being distributed in the East.

“Each year we have a a pretty steady increase,” said Kelly Griffin, NC  Coastal Pines girl scout. “This is our tenth year this year and we have done nearly 800 thousand boxes total in our ten years.”

Some of the cookies didn’t make it in the building before they were loaded for delivery to Pope Field in Fayetteville.
