“A Soldier’s Walk Home” continues its commemorative journey from New Bern to Durham.

Phillip Brown began the symbolic Civil War walk on Monday.
Thursday, he left Kinston and is on his way to Seven Springs.

Brown says the walk is to bring attention to the sacrifice of our soldiers.
9 On Your Side asked Brown the significance of starting his journey in the east.

“New Bern was the point at which Washington Duke began his journey home,” explained Philip Brown, Civil War walker. “We believe he caught a boat in Richmond down the coast to New Bern and walked across.”

During his stop in Kinston, Brown stopped at Parrot Academy, where he spoke to students with a group of veterans, before heading to the memorial site of the Kinston battlefield.
