Two people were displaced after a morning fire damaged their Grimesland home.

Fire officials say crews were called to a structure fire just after 6:45a.m. on Friday. The fire was at a home on the 4600 block of Gaskins Road.

Black Jack Fire Chief, Corey Handley, tells 9 On Your Side when firefighters arrived at the home smoke was coming from the kitchen.

Two people were home at the time. No one was injured during the incident.

Fire officials say the Red Cross has been called in for assistance.

Handley says the fire caused significant damage in the living room and kitchen. Firefighters believe the fire started in the kitchen.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

As of 8o’clock Friday morning, fire crews were working to put out hot spots in the home’s attic.
