Kinston Police have made an arrest in Monday night’s shooting.  Cephus Whitfield, 45, was shot multiple times in the 2100 block of Viking Drive.  He was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Mario King, 26, of Kinston, was arrested Wednesday night by U.S. Marshals and police officers, and charged with attempted murder, according to Kinston Police.

Police say King is a validated gang member the state Department of Corrections and has an extensive violent criminal history in Kinston.  His most recent parole ended two days before the shooting.

Police say their investigation remains active and there are additional suspects.

We are working with authorities to get an update on Whitfield’s condition.
