Summer Vacations are right around the corner, and you and your family may be planning on making a pilgrimage down to the Sunshine State. North Carolina is within driving distance, but it is still a long haul for many.

Some may be considering spending a little extra cash and taking advantage of flying to avoid the 10-plus hour drive. Many travelers will be excited to hear that a cheaper flight option may now be available. Allegiant Air has now started offering flights out of Raleigh Durham International Airport that are lower in cost than their competition.

9 On Your Side ran some rates using Google Flights from RDU to the Orlando area and we found that there is a large price difference. Two adults can travel from RDU to Orlando for $163 roundtrip on Allegiant. The next closest airfare is a Delta roundtrip flight for $497.

We did some digging and found some things to consider before taking advantage of the new low airfares.

1 – You are flying into Orlando Sanford International instead of Orlando International Airport. The drive from the Sanford airport to Walt Disney World is about an hour, but I-4 traffic is notorious for being terrible. Orlando International is roughly 25 minutes away from Disney World.

2 – Limited flights are available from Allegiant. Other airlines run multiple flights a day. Allegiant flights are limited to a few times a week, so make sure not to miss your flight or depend on any flight changes.

3 – Mickey’s Magical Express does not service Sanford. A great perk to staying on Walt Disney World property is the Mickey’s Magical Express airport shuttle. This shuttle is complementary and runs between MCO and all Disney hotels. If you are flying into Sanford then you would need to book your own transportation or rent a car.

4 – When booking through Allegiant’s site you will need to navigate a number of promotional offers for vacation packages. This is not very different from the offers you receive when booking with any travel website, but some may find it more cumbersome than booking directly with other airlines.

Have you flown Allegiant in the past? How was your experience? Share with us in the comments!
