The North Carolina Department of Transportation has announced the winners of last week’s “Equipment Roadeo” held in Washington, N.C.

Workers from Eastern North Carolina competed to determine who could best maneuver a dump truck, tractor, backhoe, or motor grader over two days.  Organizers say the goal is to help improve skills and emphasize safety.

This “Roadeo” was for NCDOT workers from Beaufort, Pitt, Greene, Lenoir, Jones, Craven, Pamlico and Carteret counties.

 The winners are as follows:

Single axle truck – Jimmy Whaley, Lenoir County Bridge

Lowboy Truck – Whitford Miller, Craven County Maintenance

Tractor Mower – Richard Baylis, Carteret County Maintenance

Backhoe – Caleb Johnson, Beaufort County Maintenance

Motor Grader – Jeffrey Dunning, Pitt County Maintenance

Mechanic – Robert Coombs, New Bern Equipment (Carteret County)

Tandem Axle Dump Truck – Scotty Jones, Craven County Maintenance

These winners now advance to the statewide “Equipment Roadeo” in Raleigh on July 21.
