A Richlands man is charged with murder and the victim is his one-year-old daughter.

37-year-old Anthony Young is in jail after investigators say he killed his young daughter Ruby Sunday morning with a kitchen knife.

First responders say the call came in around 5:30 and the scene was very hard to handle once they arrived.
Neighbors say they can’t believe it happened in their community.

“Everyone gets along,” one neighbor told 9 On Your Side. “No problems. It’s just like family out here. We have no problems at all, so it kind of…. It’s a shock.”

Onslow County sheriff Hans Miller says Young confessed to the murder. Miller told The Associated Press that the child suffered severe loss of blood and rescue crews were not able to revive her.

“The suspect, later identified as Anthony Wayne Young, called the Onslow County Emergency 911 Center and stated that he had killed his daughter,” Sheriff Hans Miller explained during a morning news conference.

Young is being held in the Onslow County Detention Center with no bond.
The sheriff says the investigation is ongoing.
Results from an autopsy to confirm the cause of death should be returned soon.
