Brandon Goldner is an award-winning general assignment reporter and digital journalist for WNCT 9 On Your Side across various dayparts.
Since joining the station in January 2014, he’s been recognized regionally for breaking stories, covering topics in-depth and holding elected leaders accountable.
Brandon was named “TV News Multimedia Journalist of the Year” for Division II by the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas in 2015. He also received first place in the entertainment news category and second place for spot news coverage.
In November 2015, Brandon filed a two-part investigation examining why the Lenoir County District Attorney and Sheriff allowed illegal sweepstakes cafes to continue operating in their jurisdiction. Less than two weeks after his investigation aired, the District Attorney sent out cease and desist letters to sweepstakes operators.
His other investigations exposed lapses in North Carolina’s tanning inspection program, revealed how an important Greenville road had deficiencies causing traffic congestion and reported how an East Carolina University football player suited up for games despite pending criminal charges.
A graduate of the University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism, Brandon worked for the school’s multimedia news operation, Capital News Service, as an anchor, general assignment/investigative reporter, and producer. There, he served as a lead reporter in a five-month groundbreaking investigative report into sea level rise in the state of Maryland, reported on-the-scene during the 2013 Navy Yard shooting and took an in-depth look at trends of crime and mental illness among veterans.
Brandon’s work at Capital News Service won him four regional student Emmys.
Brandon’s also spent time reporting for KVRR-TV in Fargo, North Dakota and Voice of America in Washington, D.C.
When he’s not reporting, you can often find Brandon at a coffee house drinking his favorite coffee and reading The New York Times!
